Zooplus
E-commerceZooplus was founded in Munich, Germany, on June 28, 1999, by a group of entrepreneurs who set out to build a dedicated online marketplace for pet products at a time when e-commerce in the category was still emerging. The company's parent entity, Zooplus SE, remains headquartered in Munich, at Herzog-Wilhelm-Strasse 18, following a 2025 office relocation. Zooplus expanded steadily across Europe during the 2000s and 2010s, adding country-specific storefronts including zooplus.es for the Spanish market. The company went public on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in May 2008 and moved to the exchange's Prime Standard segment in 2009. It remained listed, and for periods a constituent of the SDAX index, until 2021, when private equity firms Hellman & Friedman and EQT acquired the business and took it private. In January 2025, Zooplus carried out a restructuring that reduced its workforce by around 6 percent and consolidated core operations into three hubs: Munich, Madrid, and Krakow. Lionel Desclee took over as CEO of Zooplus SE in September 2025, following a period under interim leadership.
